What is Pfs?
PfS Plymouth provides exciting, inspiring and engaging learning and training opportunities for students, young people and adults throughout Plymouth. Created by Plymouth City Council in partnership with Plymouth Argyle Football Club and Mount Batten Adventure Centre, PfS Plymouth has been delivering high quality learning experiences since 2005.
Playing for Success
The national ‘Playing for Success’ programme has been delivered from our two PfS study support centres based at Plymouth Argyle’s Home Park Stadium and The Mount Batten Adventure Centre’s spectacular waterfront location. Working with pupils aged between 9 and 14 years old, the PfS programme aims to engage learners through development of communication, numeracy and ICT skills. It is designed to give young people a chance to develop their individual skills and talents and to find new and innovative ways to learn. With groups as small as 15, the centres are able to offer personalized learning that is both fulfilling and fun.
Technology and Training
State of the art technology and business standard software are an integral part of our course provision ensuring PfS Plymouth maintains its original ‘wow’ factor. We are also a respected South West Training Venue for both national and in-house provision. Our facilities and our trainers are available for booking and hire.
Life Long Learning
All of the staff at PfS Plymouth are passionate about learning and we offer opportunities and projects for all ages from 6 to 66. Delivering bespoke courses and training days, learning opportunities range from Dads and Lads match day experiences to Healthy Living workshops. We aim to offer unique, customized learning experiences, raising aspirations and increasing life chances for the local community.
Quality Assurance
In order to ensure that we offer the best possible experience for our learners, we use the Quality in Study Support (QiSS) Code of Practice and recognition process. The Pilgrim Centre achieved QiSS recognition in 2007 at Emerged Level and at Established level in 2010. The Department for Children, Schools and Families monitor the quality of our provision through Rex Hall Associates. A steering group consisting of representatives from all our stakeholders including Plymouth City Council, Primary and Secondary Head teachers, pupils, mentors and club staff oversees the development and integrity of our programme.
